Hey guys! I have just been reading an article called “FAT-FREE and Happy” and it talks about clichés about America and the reality. I thought you might be interested because there are so many facts about America you might not know. Basically what it says is that it’s not true that America has no culture. For example Boston is an elegant place with fantastic museums and two of the world’s most famous universities, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It also said that you can find the best collections of French Impressionists at the Museum of Fine Arts. The author also mentions that some of the clichés are true. Everything is bigger in the States: the shopping malls, the women and the glasses of Coca-Cola. What surprised me most was that America is very tolerant concerning gays and lesbians. In my mind everybody should make up their own image of a country and not believe clichés, even though some of them are true. What do you think about clichés?...

As you will probably know, we just celebrated Christmas in Austria so I decided to tell you something about how I spent my Christmas holidays. My family and I also celebrated Christmas Eve and I want to give you some information about this holyday and I’ll tell how it is celebrated. In Austria, it’s not Santa Clause who brings the gifts, but the “Christkind”. It is often portrayed as a child with blond curls, wings and halo. According to the narrative it comes at Christmas Eve in the houses and brings (without being seen) Christmas gifts. In many households, the window will be opened shortly before the gift on the evening of 24 December, so that the “Christkind” can fly in. As a sign that the children can enter the room with Christmas tree and gifts, a bell is rings. With Advent calendars, the Austrians are lobbying the waiting time for the Christ child. In our school we just welcomed an exchange stundent from England and my task is to tell her something about the Austrian culture, stereotypes and clichés. So I wanted to share some of my ideas with you. First of all some basic information. One of the most important things in Austria is the formal vs. informal pronoun (“du” and “Sie”). You have to use formal pronoun when you’re talking to people older than you. So when you are in school you have to call the teachers “Sie” and the students “du”. Another very important thing is the title and the last name. When a person has a title you have to call him by their title and last name. This is very important to the Austrians. Shaking hands is the established form of greeting. Take your other hand out of your pocket and look into the person’s eyes. So today I want to show you a funny advertising poster and tell you something about the marketing strategies behind it. But first of all lets start with some basic information about advertising. Advertising is used by companies, politicians, or other nonprofit instutions to sell their produkts or themselves. An advertisment should get the peoples attention so they will keep it in their minds and will probably buye it. St Patrick’s Day 2016 – Saint Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. St Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. The holiday is celebrated on the 13 th of March because Saint Patrick died on that day. In Catholic Ireland itself, this day is celebrated more quietly and in the family circle. Only the Irish emigrants namely those who have emigrated to the United States, have made the St. Patrick's Day to a mass event.
