THANKSGIVING
I was just
watching a video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faUYJ9fMiGg) and it talks about the story of
Thanksgiving. I thought you might be interested in this topic because
Thanksgiving is celebrated right now in the U.S.
Basically
what it says is how Thanksgiving is celebrated and how the holiday was born.
Each year
on the fourth Thursday in November, Americans gather for a day of feasting,
football and family. While today’s Thanksgiving celebrations would likely be
unrecognizable to attendees of the original 1621 harvest meal, it continues to
be a day for Americans to come together around the table.
Thanksgiving
Day, is a national holiday in the United States and Canada and is celebrating
blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving
is modelled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims)
of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. The American holiday is particularly rich
in legend and symbolism, and the traditional fare of the Thanksgiving meal
typically includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin
pie. This important holiday is often the busiest of the year, and all the
family members come together and celebrate.
The first
day after Thanksgiving in the United Stated is referred to as Black Friday.
Black
Friday is generally perceived to be one of the largest major U.S. holiday
shopping days for the retail industry, and is the day that most retailers
become profitable for the year. Black Friday is more associated with retail
stores than online stores.
