I was just watching a video on Youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faUYJ9fMiGg ) and it talks about the story of Thanksgiving. I thought you might be interested in this topic because Thanksgiving is celebrated right now in the U.S. Basically what it says is how Thanksgiving is celebrated and how the holiday was born. Each year on the fourth Thursday in November, Americans gather for a day of feasting, football and family. While today’s Thanksgiving celebrations would likely be unrecognizable to attendees of the original 1621 harvest meal, it continues to be a day for Americans to come together around the table. Thanksgiving Day, is a national holiday in the United States and Canada and is celebrating blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modelled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. The American holiday is particularly rich in legend and symbolism, and t...

I have recently been reading an article titled “Be popular at work” in an edition of Business Spotlight of March 2017 and it talks about the best ways how to collaborate with colleagues at work. I thought you might be interested in this text because we all need to work at a company some day and this information will probably help you to acclimatise in a new working environment. Basically, what it says is that you should make your workplace as acceptable as possible. because you spend most of your time with your colleagues than with your family at home. The author pointed out six facts about how to treat your colleagues and how to stay positive and polite at work. The first statement in the text is, to respect other people’s time. You will get extremely unpopular if you interrupt your colleagues during their work. It is also said that you should not pop into their office all the time. Ask them if they are free to talk. Form your questions as short as possible so you don’t ...
FAT-FREE and HAPPY

Hey guys! I have just been reading an article called “FAT-FREE and Happy” and it talks about clichés about America and the reality. I thought you might be interested because there are so many facts about America you might not know. Basically what it says is that it’s not true that America has no culture. For example Boston is an elegant place with fantastic museums and two of the world’s most famous universities, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It also said that you can find the best collections of French Impressionists at the Museum of Fine Arts. The author also mentions that some of the clichés are true. Everything is bigger in the States: the shopping malls, the women and the glasses of Coca-Cola. What surprised me most was that America is very tolerant concerning gays and lesbians. In my mind everybody should make up their own image of a country and not believe clichés, even though some of them are true. What do you think about clichés?...

Hi guys! In school, we have recently been talking about icebreaking questions. Icebreakers are an effective way to start getting to know someone. In my blog entry, I’m going to give you some examples of these questions. If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be… kind, friendly, helpful If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why? I would like to visit Canada because my relatives live there and I would really like to meet them. Are you a morning or a night person? I’m absolutely a night person because in the evening I have the most energy. What are your favourite hobbies? I really like music, both listening to music and making music. I play the piano and the guitar. If there was a person who could tell you everything about your future, would you like to know it or not? I would not like to know everything about my future because there won’t be any surprises anymore and that’s what makes life ...

Hi guys! Many people celebrate their love for their partner by sending cards or letters, giving gifts or flowers and arranging meals in restaurants. Valentine's cards are often decorated with images of hearts, red roses or Cupid. Common Valentine's Day gifts are flowers, chocolates, candy, lingerie and champagne or sparkling wine. So Valentine's Day is not just a great holiday for couples, it's also one of the best days for companies. They benefit greatly from that day. Limited Brands, Bloomin' Brands, American Greetings as well as many other companies which sell flowers, lingerie or gift cards love Valentine's Day the most. Even thought Valentine's Day is celebrated by almost everyone it is not a public holiday. Government offices, stores, schools and other organizations are open as usual. Public transit systems run on their regular schedule. Restaurants may be busier than usual as many people go out for an evening with their spouse or partner. Va...

As you will probably know, we just celebrated Christmas in Austria so I decided to tell you something about how I spent my Christmas holidays. My family and I also celebrated Christmas Eve and I want to give you some information about this holyday and I’ll tell how it is celebrated. In Austria, it’s not Santa Clause who brings the gifts, but the “Christkind”. It is often portrayed as a child with blond curls, wings and halo. According to the narrative it comes at Christmas Eve in the houses and brings (without being seen) Christmas gifts. In many households, the window will be opened shortly before the gift on the evening of 24 December, so that the “Christkind” can fly in. As a sign that the children can enter the room with Christmas tree and gifts, a bell is rings. With Advent calendars, the Austrians are lobbying the waiting time for the Christ child. Every day a box is opened, where a small snack is hidden. I really enjoyed the Christmas holidays because they were r...
